liposuction (suction-assisted lipectomy)

It enables the removal of the excess fat located in some areas of the body, resistant to diet or exercise.
It is performed under general anesthesia or local with conscious sedation. In the area to be treated a thin tube is positioned connected to a vacuum device. The excess fat is broken down and then suctioned.
After the surgery it is important to wear an elastic girdle for 4/6 weeks.

All blood tests are prescribed, as well as an electrocardiogram and the intake of medicines containing acetylsalicylic acid must be suspended two weeks before the operation.

While the patient is standing the areas to be treated are indicated, stressing the area with the highest accumulation of fat.

If the area to be treated is limited in extension, the surgery can be performed under local anesthesia with light sedation, otherwise a general anesthesia and a night in hospital are preferred. The patient lies on their back or front according to the area/areas indicated.
An incision of 3mm is made through which a thin tube is inserted. Contemporarily to the peeling back, a cold physiological solution is injected diluted with a vaso- constrictive. After some minutes the suction can start by connecting the thin tube to the vacuum.
Beyond the mechanical technique, the procedure can be concluded with an ultrasound machine.
After making the suture of the small incision, the homogeneity of the suction is checked. The patient must wear a self-containing girdle that allows the tissue, peeled back during the procedure, to heal, avoiding the formation of haematoma or sieromi and to remodel the new profile.

The following day the patient is discharged with the girdle. This must be worn day and night for 2 weeks and afterwards only during the day for another 14 days.
It is advised to not stand up for long periods of time, to keep the legs outstretched as long as possible (for liposuction in these areas), and to do a little exercise.
The bruising is not to be a concern since it disappears after 10/12 days. The suture stitches are removed after one week.
The areas treated will be swollen for around 20 days. Sun exposure and tanning lamps must be avoided until the disappearance of the bruising.
